New Joint Entrance Examination JEE 2017

The Joint Admission Board of IIT Advanced Joint Entrance Examination 2017 released the New Exam dates and procedure for IITs. The admission to the undergraduate programmes at the IITs and ISMU, Dhanbad, NITs, IIITs, DTU, CFTIs for the year 2017 will be based on a two tier test, which consist of JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Previousely AIEEE and IITJEE was replaced by JEE Main and JEE Advanced.

JEE Main for NITs

The first test is called the JEE Main conducted by CBSE. The IIT JEE Main will be conducted on both online and offline modes. The offline mode of JEE Main will be held on 02 April, 2017.

Admission for NITs, IIITs, DTU, CFTIs (Previously AIEEE Admissions)

The merit list for admission to NITs, IIITs, DTU, Delhi and other CFTIs will be prepared by giving 40% weightage (suitably normalised) to class XII (or equivalent examination) or other qualifying examination marks and 60% to the performance in JEE Main Examination.

NOTE: JEE Main exam 2016 is equivalent to the Previously AIEEE exam.

IIT JEE Advanced

The second test is called the JEE Advanced. The top 2,00,000 rankers of JEE Main, which includes students from all categories( GE, OBC(NCL), SC and ST as per Reservation policy ) will be eligible to appear in JEE Advanced Test.

Selection Procedure of Top 2,00,000 Students for JEE Advanced.

Based on the performance in JEE Main, the students will be selected for JEE Advanced Exam by the given selection procedure.

50.5% of the 2,00,000 that is 97,970 students will be taken from the top rankers of the Common Merit List (CML) of JEE Main. 27% that is 52,380 students will be taken form top rankers of the OBC-NCL Category Merit List, 15% that is 29,100 students will be taken from top rankers of the SC Category Merit List and 7.5% that is 14,550 students will be taken from the top rankers of the ST category rank lists. The candidates figuring in the category rank lists will be those who do not figure in the 97,970 candidates chosen from the CML.

3% of the students selected within each category will be those belonging to PwD (Persons with Disability) sub-category, who figure in the respective rank lists of JEE Main.

Only the student’s aggregate marks in JEE Main will be considered and no tie-break mechanism will be implemented at this stage. This will make the list of candidates eligible to appear in JEE Advanced slightly more than 2,00,000 due to bunching of candidates with the same aggregate marks at the bottom of each category.

Admission for IITs and ISMU Dhanbad

Admissions to IITs and ISMU Dhanbad will be based only on category wise All India Rank (AIR) in JEE Advanced. The successfull student should also be in the top 20 percentile of their Board Exams (state board or CBSE ) in applicable categories.
